HOT ANTIC JAZZ BAND

PRESENTATION OF THE BAND

Why "HOT ANTIC" by GARY KISER, tuba player of "Sac à Pulses" FRENCH LESSON

How many of you know just how clever the name HOT ANTIC is ? If you can imagine, it is a double play on words in French still maintaining an English meaning. In English, we say Hot Antic depicting something, perhaps, a little wild, a little crazy. This is deliberate However, in French, Hot Antic is pronounced "oat ant-eek". It is from this pronunciation we derive two very clever jeux de mots (plays on words). The word "authentique" is pronounced "oat ant-eek", meaning, of course, "authentic". Those of you who are familiar with the Hot Antic Jazz Band, you know that "authentique" is a very appropriate word for the group. Then, the words "Haut Antique" is pronounced "oat ant-eek". Here "haut" means high or upper, and "antique" means, hhmmmm, I'll leave this one for you to resolve. Thus, this latter expression means something like "quality antique" which again is very appropriate for the HAJB. End of the French lesson.
